| hey look! i am still alive!! college trimester 1 is almost done for me. i have exams next week (yes, i have to study during thanksgiving). and then i'm out for a whole month off!! i am busy. too busy for my own sanity sometimes. it's so funny, kalamazoo kids are all nerds except for on weekends, when they are crazy, geez. calculus in the morning 3 days a week sucks. and i do it all next quarter too. yucky. someone tell mr. meengs that the last 2 months of PDM were easily the most helpful preparation for college i had. they get you through an entire semester of calc. seriously, pass that along, and remember that, all you discouraged PDM students. okay, i'm only writing this because i don't want to write my last poli theory paper. but it's worth 20 percent of my grade so i prolly should. i want an update on the debate team! ta ta | | |
| Wow, I almost forgot I had this thing! College is not as hard as I thought it would be. Seriously, I still haven't had that "oh my gosh I'm overwhelmed by college" moment yet. Last weekend was pretty stressful because I had two papers (one of which was 1/3 of my grade) and a bunch of reading and had to work for 8 hours on Saturday, but I'm still ok. All you people who say now that you hate coffee, just wait until you get to college. Coffee is a wonderful thing. Although, it's only good with lots and lots of sugar and creamer. I have this nasty habit of getting several instant coffee packets stuck in my pocket every time I go to the cafeteria... It is snowing outside. What is wrong with this area? It is the middle of October, for heaven's sakes! We haven't had that nice fall weather, ya know, the kind where you wear a light jacket and drink apple cider and watch the leaves change color. We're skipping my favorite season!! I'm freaking out. Our fishies are named James Dean and Audrey Hepburn. They are very cute and were only 12 cents. Did you know it's National Coming Out Week? I didn't either until I awoke Monday to find our campus completely covered in sidewalk chalk telling us this, among other things. It was a nifty bit of work. I love how active our campus is. Yuppers, other than that, tutoring 4th grade math is fun, Calculus is really hard to have at 8:30 3 days a week, and did you know that the French blame minor accidents on the owner of the object broken rather than the person who broke the object? I bet you didn't know that. Okay, I've got to do something productive. Adios! | | |
| Okie, time for an update... College is pretty cool. My roommate is really cool, and my dorm is really big. Ridiculously big for a dorm room; we don't even have our beds bunked, and we have 2 dressers, and 2 desks, and we still have room. I need to bring more stuff to fill up the space. I'm probably gonna hit myself for saying this in a couple of weeks, but classes really aren't that bad. Granted, I've only had 2 days of them, but I'm not feeling overwhelmed yet. I'm getting to bed on time, I'm getting my homework done, and I'm still managing to run and practice piano. This feeling actually makes me more nervous, because I feel like I should be stressing out more. Am I not working hard enough? Is there something I'm missing? Who knew DDR would be such a popular game in DeWaters hall?? We had a DDR party tonight, it was crazy. Some people are ridiculously good at that game. Boys especially. Kalamazoo's campus is beautiful. And my classes all have 17 students or less, and my professors know me by name. I'm not regretting going to a small school, except for the cafeteria food which is abysmal. And not having a car is not that bad, either. Lots of things are in walking or metro distance: downtown Kzoo, Burger King, pizza, football games, train stations, malls, boyfriends. It's actually good bc I'm getting way more exercise. The worst part is I'm on the 4th floor. Lugging 5 political theory books up a bunch of stairs is no fun. And I'm tired. Goodnight. | | |
| College is awesome, but my internet is not working, so stay tuned next week for an update from the fascinating and beautiful Kalamazoo college! Over and out! | | |
| My last post from good ol' Wyoming. I probably should have something deep and meaningful to say here. I'm gearing myself up for homework, for studying, for pushing myself, for being broke, for stress, for growth, for meeting new people, for leaving my dad's control, for independence, for finding a new comfort zone, for letting go of my perfectionism, for letting go and enjoying myself, for new adventures, for having what is supposed to be the best four years of my life, and, most of all, for not knowing what is to come. My hair's brown-red. I figured, a new chapter in my life deserves a new hair color (making the fourth different color i've had in the past year). It reflects a change in attitude for me too. And it was fun to scare the crap out of everyone I know. My bags are packed. I hope the people down at K are nice and friendly. And I am so ready. College, here I come. P.S. Out of curiousity, who took over movie reviews at South? And, Brad, what's the debate topic? | | |
